We’re building the tools we wished existed.
We’re Nick and Drew. We met at MIT, then spent the better part of a decade building Gem together — Nick as co-founder and CTO, Drew as the first engineer — growing it to roughly 300 people and a $1.2B valuation.
For the last year we’ve coded almost entirely with Claude Code and Codex. It changed how we build — but we kept hitting the same wall: localhost. Worktrees were clunky, laptops had to stay cracked open, and parallel agents fought over one machine.
We couldn’t find a tool that fixed all the pain points, so we built the one we wanted. boxes.dev gives every agent its own computer in the cloud — reachable from your desktop and your phone.

We build for the way developers actually work, and are our own first customers.
Agents shouldn’t be tethered to a laptop that has to stay cracked open all night.
Not just a git checkout — a full machine that can run, test, and break things in isolation.
A cloud environment has to feel as fast and familiar as the localhost it replaces.
We ship a strong point of view, then bend it based on what our users actually tell us.
boxes.dev is the first cloud-only agentic dev environment — we’re building it actively, shipping fast and listening hard. Tell us what you think.
